Spill conditions: On 27 September 1996, the tank vessel Julie N. hit a bridge abutment while entering harbor at Portland, Maine, resulting in a loss of 179,000 gallons (609 tons) of a mixture (roughly equal) of heavy fuel oil and No. 2 diesel.
